So you want to expand on your own personal effort and join with other like-minded folks to spread the good word, and in so doing count yourselves among the ever-growing, world-wide Zeitgeist Movement. Imagine, from a single online documentary just a few years ago into a world-wide movement involving hundreds of thousands. Perhaps millions! Its message strikes home to many who see the movie for the first time. It is a powerful message with which we feel a real and instant connection. And so we flock together.

This document intends to provide you with suggestions, recommendations and references to get a local chapter off the ground. That's right, Main Street, your town!

Local chapters

Local chapters provide a real opportunity to foster new relationships while at the same time provide a positive association with community. There's a reason we have the proverbial expression about strength in numbers. When two or more gather around a common interest or cause, the symbiotic energy builds as does the momentum. Interested in starting a chapter in your own area? Starting a chapter is a rewarding step to spreading the word within your own community.

The Canadian Chapter

The goal of Zeitgeist Canada, the Canadian Chapter of the Global Zeitgeist Movement, is to connect people with a chapter within their own area. We are looking to build chapters in every town and every city across Canada. Thinking globally AND acting locally.

Our first objective is to assist you in finding a chapter in your own community or environs in which you may become an active member. Or, if one doesn't exist, with your help to start the ball rolling, to foster the start of one. You will find that when you begin a chapter, many individuals in your local area, also with incredible talents and enthusiasms, will want to join you. All these combined efforts will create a machine that becomes unstoppable! Your steps move us even closer to attaining the goals of the movement.

Canadian Network

Zeitgeist Canada also intends to be a bridge between Canadian chapters, to stimulate creativity and foster further development of each chapter. Each chapter brings its own unique flair and style and in sharing our incredible ideas back and forth, we ultimately bring about new levels of excitement to make sharing and expressing our message as a group even more efficient and explosive, further educating the larger Canadian public! Critical mass is around the corner.

A person with a mind blowing t-shirt idea that has really worked in one chapter shares it with other chapters. A great flyer that seems to catch a persons attention and elicit questions is an effective flyer for all chapters to have. If it works, let’s share it! Creativity, in ideas and strategy will move mountains and The Zeitgeist Movement forward.

Our FORUM will facilitate this exchange of ideas, strategies, resources and mutual enrichment with a section "Canadian Chapters". This way each chapter can bounce ideas around with all the other chapters, sharing stories from events, new media ideas and creative contributions in all forms can be expressed fully within this forum. As well, any individuals that are searching for creative suggestions or solutions to problems, can reach out through this forum for answers.

Ignition

Starting a chapter is not difficult at all. A chapter is simply a small "core" group that meets on a regular basis to discuss and plan ways to help spread the message. These meetings can take place in a living room or at the kitchen table, in a coffee shop, or even a food court at the local mall. Talk about ways to spread information and promote the Zeitgeist Movement in your community. Then hit the gas and do it!

Here's some ideas to get you brainstorming:

Attend ready-made events in your area. Fairs, community markets, festivals, concerts and other community-based events offer great opportunities to reach many people and give a face to a new Zeitgeist group. A simple table with a photocopied flyer, (be watching for ready-to-use templates) some DVD’s to hand-out, creative "pins"(samples soon) and even t-shirts (samples soon) are great ways to attract folks at these types of events and community fairs.

In addition, a creative banner or poster can stop people in their tracks and very quickly an engaging conversation will ensue. As a group, spreading the message of The Zeitgeist Movement can be a fun day of great conversations and new found relationships with people that are also waking up to these solutions ofered by the Venus Project.

A virtual presence

Where would we be without The Net? We can all acknowledge its importance for any activists group organizing around real issues and wanting to spread a message to the larger public.

Having a site to provide information about your chapter, a way for people to hear of your events and meetings as well as contribute themselves in some way is extremely important. It can be something as simple as a Facebook group - a great way to get up and running with your chapter quickly - or something more accessible and extensive like your own domain. Growing Pains

If there is one caution we'd like to offer, it is to stress the importance of remaining aware of the possible "pitfalls" that can present themselves to any chapter as it grows. With growth in numbers it's inevitable that ideas will abound, approaches to issues may vary, and egos may collide. While well meaning, this can often lead to sidetracking and division.
